Silas goes to bed, by Gregoire Glachant

The following series, entitled "Silas goes to Bed", is a heady mix of sensuality and spirituality from Bangkok-based French photographer Gregoire Glachant - definitely a photographer to watch! We'll show you more pictures from him in the days to come, but if you can't wait, click here.

Qin fantasy by Yu Shuo and Jenny Ji

24 year old Yu Shuo is one of China's best known post-80's stylists today. He began his career in 1998 at the tender age of 15 as a make-up artist at an Avon counter, against the wishes of his parents. Recently, he released the following series of pictures on his blog, Surespace, which features the latest designs of Jenny Ji, inspired by the Qin dynasty, terracotta warriors, horses and all. Jenny is one of China's most promising homegrown designers. Although I've been checking out Surespace for some time, these pictures caught my eye because I had the good fortune of working on a fashion event last year where Jenny Ji unveiled these 32 designs for the very first time. Hao Yi, one of the models featured here, also worked with us at Manifesto's last party. He seems to be making a name for himself lately, so that's great for him. When I find the time, I will put up pictures from Jenny Ji's fashion show last year, but for now, eat your heart out.

Shanghai Studio - From Bangkok to Shanghai

This Saturday looks like it's going to be a busy day for all of us! After the Eno/Shanghaiist Happy Hour, join us for a bit of art back at Shanghai Studio, which has just undergone a massive makeover!

This multi-dimensional show, "From Bangkok to Shanghai", is Shanghai Studio's ninth art event and will feature the works of Be Takerng Pattanopas (Bangkok), videos by Jung-Chul Hur (Korea) and blow-ups by our very own Hanspeter Ammann (Switzerland).

Doll Face

A machine with a doll face mimics images on television screen in search of a satisfactory visage. Doll Face presents a visual account of desires misplaced and identities fractured by our technological extension into the future. Very thought provoking and profound!

One picture everyday since 1 Nov 2001

The idea is simple, the result is stunning. On November 1, 2001, artist Ahree Lee began taking daily digital snapshots of her own face; and she has continued this project every day since. In 2004, Lee compiled all of her daily images into a montage with a wistful musical score. In the fast-paced parade of images you're about to see, each second of screen time represents about one week's worth of pictures. Click here for the entire video clip.

Timelapse - Jonathan Keller

Even before yesterday's Ahree Lee began on her film project, 22 year old Jonathan Keller of Detroit began taking daily photos of himself. 8 years on, the project is astounding! Find out more about his Daily Photo Project, and read his FAQ.

German twins Sven and Tobias Staude have also caught on to the human timelapse craze. Although their videos are not as meticulously done, their project should be even more interesting as time goes on. Visit their website here!

The Tattoo Show Convention China 2007

I've got ear- and nose-piercings and I'm still thinking of getting more just to freak the hell out of everyone I meet here in China, but somehow I still haven't found the balls to get my first tattoo yet (not unless there is a general anesthetist on hand in the house to knock me out first, that is). The Tattoo Show Convention China 2007 caught our attention because although Chinese characters and designs have long been the favourite of tattoo enthusiasts around the world, you don't really think of China itself as a land of tattoo aficionados, do you?
