Back to Basics - MANifesto unveils its autumn/winter 2006/07 collection!

Many people have been asking us when we're going to finally put up the pictures from our party, Back to Basics, where we basically unveiled our autumn/winter 2006/07 collection. Well the wonderful guys from Shanghaiist, our favourite city blog, came along to the event and snapped a few pictures. You don't see the most exciting stuff that happened because they came a little late, but we promise you more juicy stuff VERY soon!

SuperStars by Leslie Kee

This is the latest photo exhibition by famed Singaporean photographer Leslie Kee who has taken two years to shoot 300 top Asian stars. Why doesn't anyone invite me to such exhibitions, I wonder?

Wow, does anybody know who that guy below Andy Hui is? Apparently, Leslie Kee is embroiled in a bit of controversy at the moment over the pictures, which I wrote about more substantially at Shanghaiist. He is said to have edited out Aaron Kwok's swimming trunk without prior approval. Andy Hui doesn't like his pic either.

I dont know about you, but I have found no reason to complain so far! Is this guy the same as the guy up there that I was asking about?

Ohh... and what a lovely... tattoo! Does anyone know who he is?

Many thanks to iamyy

Qin fantasy by Yu Shuo and Jenny Ji

24 year old Yu Shuo is one of China's best known post-80's stylists today. He began his career in 1998 at the tender age of 15 as a make-up artist at an Avon counter, against the wishes of his parents. Recently, he released the following series of pictures on his blog, Surespace, which features the latest designs of Jenny Ji, inspired by the Qin dynasty, terracotta warriors, horses and all. Jenny is one of China's most promising homegrown designers. Although I've been checking out Surespace for some time, these pictures caught my eye because I had the good fortune of working on a fashion event last year where Jenny Ji unveiled these 32 designs for the very first time. Hao Yi, one of the models featured here, also worked with us at Manifesto's last party. He seems to be making a name for himself lately, so that's great for him. When I find the time, I will put up pictures from Jenny Ji's fashion show last year, but for now, eat your heart out.

Spaniard crowned Mr World 2007

The search for "the world's most desirable man" is over. The Mr World pageant broke from its four year hiatus and was hosted in China for the very first time, attracting contestants from 56 countries and regions.

Mr World
25-year-old Spaniard Juan Garcia Postigo was crowned Mr. World 2007 in Sanya, Hainan. He is flanked by the first runner-up Lucas Gil from Brazil and second runner-up Jiang Lejun from China, who, in my humble opinion, looks kind of ugly!

The Tattoo Show Convention China 2007

I've got ear- and nose-piercings and I'm still thinking of getting more just to freak the hell out of everyone I meet here in China, but somehow I still haven't found the balls to get my first tattoo yet (not unless there is a general anesthetist on hand in the house to knock me out first, that is). The Tattoo Show Convention China 2007 caught our attention because although Chinese characters and designs have long been the favourite of tattoo enthusiasts around the world, you don't really think of China itself as a land of tattoo aficionados, do you?

Drag Party of the Year @ Shanghai Studio

Saturday saw the likes of Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Maggie Cheung and other miscellaneous tramps descending upon Shanghai Studio for the Drag Party of the Year organised by the Shanghai LGBT group. The city's favourite drag queen, Gwen from Tempe, also graced the special occasion with her presence and added to the festive spirit of the party. Some party attendees also decided to swing across the road to Eddy's Bar (another prominent location in the city's gay ghetto), attracting curious stares from people in the neighbourhood and taxi-drivers sticking their heads out. Apart from the paparazzi catching some pretty damning shots of us engaging in some hot wet lesbian action, we also had some strange men rubbing up against us all night and other men inviting us home for a tryst with their girlfriends. Okay, TMI we know, but really, it's been a long time since we put on our wig let our hair down for such a smashin' party, and went home at 6am when the lights were all out. Till the next time we put on our qipao, keep swingin' Shanghai!
